Despite the fact that less than half of the registered votes exercised their constitutional right in the just concluded general elections, no one could have predicted the thrilling drama that required all of five days to officially declare a winner, by literally a photo finish.

As Jamaicans, we can be proud of ourselves in the manner in which state power has been transferred from one political party to the other, a seamless transition that must be the envy of a large number of countries globally, a feat which underscores our maturity despite being such a young nation.

By all accounts, the new government is preparing to hit the ground running, obviously mindful of the constraints associated with the current International Monetary Fund agreement and we can only pray that its culmination will indeed lead to acceptable levels of growth which has proved so elusive over the years and therefore it is within this context that we congratulate our new government on its hard fought victory at the polls.
