The Treasure Beach Women’s Group (TBWG), in collaboration with the Treasure Beach Home of Community Tourism will stage the Third Annual Charity 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness and celebrate survivorship with the hope of helping to save lives and empower others who are oftentimes unaware or misinformed about cancer.

The event will be a day and night of fitness and fun activities for the entire family in recognition of October being “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”, and October 15th being “International Day Of Rural Women”. 

The main organizer is Ms. Janette Kaloo, Vice President of TBWG and a breast cancer survivor.  From personal experience Ms. Kaloo knows the need in St. Elizabeth in particular and Jamaica at large, for assistance and education regarding cancer.

On Friday, September 30th at 4:00 p.m., the official media launch will take place at the Sunset Resort and Villas, Treasure Beach. The moderator will be Mr. Earl Moxam of the Press Association of Jamaica and special guest speakers will include: Dr. Gregory Vidal M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Division on Oncology at the University of Tennessee - West Cancer Institute Memphis, who will be speaking on breast cancer awareness, early detection, treatment and hope for cure; Dr. Trevor McCartney, a consultant surgeon is deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of the West Indies; Hon. Floyd Green, Member of Parliament for Southwest St. Elizabeth; and Ms. Shelia Roseau of the United Nations Population Fund, who will be speaking on International Rural Women’s Day.

On Saturday, October 15 the   “Women with a Purpose - Walk for Life”, the Third Annual Treasure Beach 5K Breast Cancer Treasure Hunt Run/Walk will start at 7:00am in the Treasure Beach community.  The “Sing For A Cause” benefit concert will be held in the evening.

The registration fee for the Run/Walk is JA$1,000 for individuals and for groups of 10 or more $800. per person, children under 12 years are expected to contribute JA$500. each.  Registration will take place at  Sunset Resorts and Villas from September 5 to October 14th.
